Hydrodynamics of bacterial propulsion
I will discuss the basics of swimming of bacteria propelled by helical flagella. I will show how to calculate the force and torque generated by the flagella from first principles and discuss the role of hydrodynamic interactions between the flagella and the cell's body in bacterial propulsion.
