I study theoretical particle physics. That is, I try to understand the mathematical theories that we believe describe the behaviour of the most fundamental particles in the universe. In doing so, I want to gain insight into why the universe has the physical properties that we observe when we perform experiments.

A brief explanation of what I do is given here.

Here are some posters of my work that I have presented:

• Our work on an improved way of predicting the lifetime of Upsilon mesons
• A more technical description of the same work
• How we used Random Matrix Theory to look for symmetry restoration with staggered fermions. Again, this is more technical.

Those more familiar with the theory of elementary particles might prefer to look at the list of publications I keep for reference.

This year I am lecturing the Junior Honours (3rd year) course "Physical Mathematics".

I am also co-organising the Junior Honours (3rd year) course "Research Methods".

In previous years I have taught half of the second year course "Foundations of Mathematical Physics" (FOMP).

I have supervised a number of final year M.Phys. projects: Chris Monahan (2006-07); Elaine Goode (2007-08); F. Herzog (2007-08, jointly with Rosalind Allen in Condensed Matter).
