Hello,
we are typically 25 to 40 singers, coming essentially from any university faculty. Most of our repertoire is a capella music. Including our conductor, Prof. Alexander Sumski, we have a common interest in performing music to high standards.
On the other side, this does not mean at all we are "music idiots". Everyone of us is pursuing regular studies at the university, and even as the "Camerata" requests a significant part of our leisure time we definitively know how to be together without having the next concert in mind.
Camerata Vocalis The Camerata Vocalis of Tübingen University has been founded by its director Alexander Sumski in 1973 and devotes itself to an a capella literature. The special reputation of the Camerata Vocalis is not only due to the choir's extraordinary technical flexibility, but also to the rich palette of timbres and the well-balanced musical performance it has to offer. Numerous recordings and radio broadcasts with for example the Südwestfunk Baden-Baden and the Radio France - France Musique in Paris testify to the great success of this ensemble. Concert tours in a great number of European countries as well as in many African countries have contributed to the worldwide fame to the Camerata Vocalis.

Have a look at the choir's brochure.

What happened in 1995

In 1995 we were travelling to Zurich and Venice and had a concert tour to Hungary, Romania and Czech Republic. In the series of "Music in Upper Swabian Monasteries" we had two concerts recorded and a studio production by the Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. In december we performed J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratory in Tübingen.

What happened in 1997

As I am no longer based in Tübingen (since spring 1997), I am now unable to provide the latest or even complete information about the choir's activities. I have to be happy that I can join the choir for musical projects on occasions.

For further information, the Tübingen University's Public Relations Service - Presseamt - is providing some information on the Collegium musicum in german language: winter term 1997/98, summer term 1998, winter term 1998/99.

Events in 1999

Probably not the entire 1999 schedule: Prof. Sumski is now 65 years old. Having given the Carmina Burana as his first concert in Tübingen about 25 years ago, a concert which was remembered as an outstanding performance for long years, he did perform this piece of music once again before he will retire from his university post in october.

How to join the Camerata

So you are considering to join the Camerata Vocalis?
You should have a good, clear voice, sightread, dedicated to excellence, and be willing to join the choir for a longer period. You should bring with you the necessary time for rehearsals and concerts, too!

The usual rehearsals take place in semester time on tuesday evening, 8-10pm. Extra rehearsals are quite common before concerts and concert tours.

For the necessarily compulsory audition please contact the Collegium musicum 07071-29-76096. Although new members usually join in the beginning of a semester, feel free to contact the Collegium any time in the "semester".
