Physics 4/5 Modern Optics

Synopsis
A course on scalar optics, where light propagation is considered as a scalar phenomenon with linear interactions with materials. This describes the imaging properties of systems in coherent and incoherent light including cameras, telescopes and microscopes. Simple aberration theory, and its implications on practical systems is covered with its implications to basic optical design. Holography and its applications are discussed along with coherent optical image processing and the applications of spatial light modulators (SLMS) to modern real-time optical processing systems.
