In addition to its role as an interdisciplinary research centre within the University environment, COSMIC is committed to developing profitable partnerships with the industrial sector across the full range of its activities. The nature of existing partnerships is very diverse and includes consultancy, training, provision of characterisation services, and joint research programmes leading to intellectual property generation, licensing and commercialisation of emerging technologies.

Specifically, COSMIC offers industrial partners:

  • Resources for short lead time testing of new technologies with particular applications in biotech, optoelectronics and other strategically important sectors.

  • Provision of physical space with well-equipped infrastructure for pre-incubator proof of principle testing.

  • Access to internationally-recognised expertise in key areas such as:

      • optics
      • microscopy/imaging
      • spectroscopy
      • materials characterisation
      • fluoresence-based techniques
      • photophysics
      • optical trapping
