The main aim of the NA48 experiment at the CERN-SPS is to measure the
small CP violating parameter to an accuracy of
1 part in 10
. This continues the earlier work of the Edinburgh group
on NA31. The NA48 detector was fully commissioned in 1997, and is
currently taking large amounts of data. It is expected that a measurement
will be completed by 2000.
The main responsibilities of the group have been in the areas of high speed data acquisition (the Data Merger), and the muon veto system. Most of the group's effort is now devoted to data analysis. This currently involves the temporary lecturer, an RA, and two graduate students.
While it is not intended that either of the new appointments should work on NA48, it might be possible to work part time on data analysis, if a candidate expressed an interest.
