Topic 6: Digital Filtering
These two (or three) lectures cover digital filtering which is the mainstay of digital image processing and analysis. Linear filtering is covered in real and Fourier space with examples of noise reduction and edge enhancement. This is extended to non-linear filtering in real space with examples of removal of data-dropout noise, region expansion and median filtering for noise removal. Finally non-linear Fourier filtering for illumination correction is considered.
