Colloidal crystals

In this PhD project, we study the phase behaviour of colloids, specifically crystallization of colloids, quantyifying the crystallinity of the resulting colloidal crystals. The envisaged application is more sustainable fabrication of colloidal crystals for energy applications.

Sliding droplets

In this PhD project, we study the physics of droplets sliding on solid substrates. An example in everyday life would be rain droplets on a window or antifouling coatings for solar panels.

Industry

The mission of the Edinburgh Complex Fluids Partnership (ECFP) is to advance and innovate complex fluids design and processes through scientific excellence. Companies that ECFP has worked with include Aqualution Systems Ltd, Croda, Fujifilm, Quorn Foods, Glucomar, and Lamellar Biomedical.

Energy materials

This 2017-2021 project on Multiscale Tuning of Interfaces and Surfaces for Energy Applications (MISE) was a £2.1 million EPSRC networking Centre in partnership between four UK universities: St Andrews, Edinburgh, Bath and Birmingham.

Equality, diversity & inclusion

In this 2018-2022 project, Evidence Base (eBase) was established to promote and execute a systems based approach to problems of equality, diversity and inclusion in STEM.
