Conditions for Access to Facilities

  • Access to COSMIC facilities should be properly costed according to Full Economic Costing (FEC) guidelines.
  • For the purposes of research grants from UK HEIs involving current COSMIC Users, costings of access to facilities are available on request from the COSMIC Business Manager Trevor Whittley. Please consult Trevor before submitting your grant application!
  • All applicants for research grants that use COSMIC should discuss their project and its COSMIC requirements with a member of the COSMIC Management Team preferably accompanied by an abstract of their project.
  • All others wanting access to COSMIC, should contact the COSMIC Business Manager. (Comment: This applies to industrial contracts, or anyone seeking to use COSMIC without an academic collaboration with an existing COSMIC User. Academics from outwith the University of Edinburgh may contact any member of the Management Team but industry should contact the Business Manager.)
  • All recipients of successful grants should inform a the COSMIC Business Manager of the level of access to COSMIC that was funded.
  • Access to COSMIC facilities is granted by the COSMIC Management Team. The Management Team reserves the right to refuse access for any use that is not properly costed according to the guidelines presented here. However, exploratory measurements can be catered for and are encouraged.
